Laurie is becoming a leader in the field of childhood obesity and promotion of healthy weight children in Wyoming. She first worked with teens who had weight related health issues in the late 1980’s. Since then she has developed several programs that help youth attain/maintain a healthier weight. In 2008 she developed and implemented a comprehensive health promotion program for Head Start. This program had a positive effect on the nutrition and physical activity habits of over 600 preschool aged children and their families. Recently Laurie has developed and published a successful evidenced based pediatric weight management program. The Wyoming Department of Health is currently distributing this program to children and teens across the state in an effort to combat childhood obesity.
